Costs for jersey flocking

You want a new and individual kit for your club or team? Then you definitely want to know what the costs are for kit flocking. In this article we tell you everything about the topic.

What is a jersey flock?

The jersey flock refines the sports jersey with names, numbers or logos that can be individually selected. What is jersey refinement? Refinement is the subsequent application of logos, names, numbers, initials and other imprints. Flocking makes the jersey individual and gives the team or club a recognition value. The commercial flock consists of felt and flock fibres as well as a special adhesive. These components work together to ensure that the desired graphics adhere well.

However, the flocking process can also have some disadvantages in terms of durability: Sweat, UV radiation and many washing processes can cause the felt to come off the jersey. In addition, the costs of jersey flocking are usually significantly higher than with modern printing methods. In addition, jersey flocking has its limitations when it comes to graphics or images on a jersey. To immortalise more complicated graphics on a jersey, sublimation printing is suitable.

Have your kit flocked: How much does a kit with flocking cost?

If you want to have a jersey set flocked, with most suppliers you pay a price for the jersey and additionally for each individual flock that is to be applied to each individual jersey. Accordingly, the price structure on the market can vary greatly.
Why is that? Most jerseys come from low-wage countries in Asia. This means that a low unit price can be achieved for the jersey, but the subsequent flocking has to be applied by hand at the local sports retailer. That costs time. And as we all know, time is more expensive in this country than in many other countries of our globalised world.
A supposedly inexpensive jersey, including flocking, quickly turns into a considerable total price. The following options are available to sports clubs and teams for kit flocking:

  • Club name on the back
  • Club logo on the chest
  • Sponsor logo on the chest
  • other logos (e.g. additional sponsor or association logo)
  • Back number
  • Initials
  • Player name on the back

Each individual flock creates additional costs, the market average is 5 euros per flock. In football, the regulations on the number of sponsors allowed on the jersey differ from state to state. Often only one advertising partner is allowed on the jersey. In other sports, several sponsors are allowed on a jersey, which increases the cost of flocking on the traditional market. In addition, in some sports (e.g. badminton) it is obligatory to wear the association logo on the jersey in order to participate in matches.

Jersey flocking: cost example for sponsor logos

As already described, flock printing is very time-consuming and therefore also cost-intensive. The table below shows how the costs for kit flocking can increase constantly:

Unit
Average price per kit
Total price for 20 pieces
Average jersey set price (jersey + shorts) strating from 20 pieces40 euros800 euros
Sponsor or club logos (e.g. 3 pieces)15 euros per jersey300 euros
Standard flocking consisting of shirt number, club name and club logo (3 flock components)
15 euros per jersey
300 euros
Total jersey cost plus standard flocking70,00 euros1.400,00 euros

The calculation example shows that the costs for flocking the jerseys of a single team can quickly reach a four-digit amount. Most clubs or sports teams can only pay such costs with contributions from players or coaches. But for these circumstances, a cost-efficient alternative is available: Sublimation printing offers very high print quality and, thanks to modern and digital technology, is much cheaper than traditional flocking methods. In the following sections, we will show you how you can save money on kit flocking.

Jersey printing: costs with the sublimation printing process

Many clubs do not only want to equip a single team with jerseys, but all teams participating in the game. With 10 teams, the total number of kits required can quickly reach 200 or more. The table above shows that the cost of kits for a single team can run into four figures. As a rule, only professional clubs can afford this. Sublimation printing: how the price advantages come into effect

In sublimation, a solid material changes into a gaseous state. Accordingly, solid colour pigments are vapourised into the textile. The sublimation printing process is a digital approach in which any number of motifs can be added without incurring additional costs. This makes sublimation printing very cost-efficient, especially for large print runs. This modern printing technology has not been widely used until now because the graphic costs and delivery times were not attractive enough, especially for short runs. At spized, however, it is possible to order as little as one jersey and have your products hanging in the air in just 14 days. On our website you will find a 3D online configurator that puts elaborate graphic work to rest. Want to learn more about sublimation printing?

The advantages of sublimation printing at a glance

Beyond the purely financial aspects, you can benefit from many other advantages of the sublimation printing process:

  • No printing process can produce motifs of such high quality. With sublimation printing, colour intensity is guaranteed.
  • With spized, you have complete freedom of design thanks to sublimation printing. Complex patterns, photographs or graphics are no problem for us.
  • The textile remains completely intact because no coating is left on the fabric.
  • The sublimation print guarantees you high durability - spized jerseys continue to have a high colour intensity even after numerous washes.
  • The digital printing process is very efficient and enables fast delivery times.
  • Sublimation does not require any binding agents or solvents. Water-based inks are used, making sublimation a more environmentally friendly option.
