Costs for jersey flocking

You want to have jerseys flocked and need a rough idea of the costs involved? This article will tell you more about the topic.

What is jersey flocking?

Basically, there are many finishing techniques that make the jersey unique. Finishing is the subsequent application of logos, names, numbers, initials or other imprints. Flocking is a popular way of adding club names, numbers or sponsors to a jersey. The flock basically consists of two different components: Felt-like flock fibres and a special adhesive. The two components work together to ensure that the logo, name or number sticks to the jersey.

The flocking process is certainly a good solution for visualising club names on the jersey - but it also has its limits. After some time, sweat, UV radiation and numerous washing processes can cause the felt to come off the jersey. Moreover, as soon as several components and colours are to be printed on the jersey, the flocking process is significantly more expensive than other printing processes. Especially with a high number of pieces, the costs for jersey flocking can quickly rise with the classic flocking process.

Flock your jersey: These options are available

The costs for flocking jerseys can vary greatly. In addition to the price of the jersey, the manufacturers or suppliers have to pay for each individual flock. This is because the jerseys, which usually come from low-wage countries in Asia, have to be flocked afterwards. That takes time - and as we know, time is much more expensive here than in other countries of our globalised world. The supposedly low price per piece of jersey, including flocking, then becomes a high total price for jersey flocking. As a sports club or sports team, it is therefore important to think carefully about where flocking is needed on the jersey. The following options are usually available:

  • Club name on the back (top or bottom)
  • Club logo on the chest (centre, right or left)
  • Sponsor logo on the chest
  • Additional logos (e.g. additional sponsor or association logo)
  • Back number - initials - player's name on the back (top or bottom).

Each individual component incurs additional costs of 5 euros on average. So if you want to have the standard football jersey flocked (shirt number, club name and logo, sponsor), you have to reckon with an additional cost of 20 euros for each individual jersey in addition to the unit price of the jersey. If other components are added, the cost per jersey increases further.

Jersey flocking: the costs at a glance

Flocking processes are very complex, which is the reason for the high costs. In the table below, we have selected average market prices that accurately represent the constantly rising costs of jersey flocking:

Unit
Average price per piece
Total price for 20 pieces
Average jersey price from a number of pieces of 2025 Euro per jersey500 Euro
Standard football flocking (number, club name, logo, sponsor):5 Euro per flock400 Euro
Total cost jersey plus standard flocking:45 Euro900 Euro

If you want to equip not only a single team with jerseys, but the entire club, you need a much higher number of jerseys and flocking. With 10 teams, a total of 200 club jerseys is not unusual. In addition, the jerseys must all be individually flocked afterwards. Including a standard football flocking, the total costs amount to around 8,000 euros (including the usual quantity discounts). For many clubs and sports teams, it is difficult to meet such costs. But there is a cost-efficient solution to this problem! The sublimation printing process is considerably cheaper, while at the same time offering high print quality. In the following section, we will explain the costs for printing a jersey and the advantages of sublimation printing.

Jersey printing: costs and advantages of sublimation printing

"Sublimation" is the transition of a solid substance that changes directly into a gaseous state, i.e. evaporates. In sublimation printing, solid colour pigments are vapourised into the garment. Because the print motifs are printed on transfer foil in the first production step, the term "transfer printing" is often used as a synonym for sublimation printing. Transfer printing is a digital printing process in which any number of motifs can be added at no additional cost.

Having jerseys printed saves money and makes the entire jersey requirement for teams or clubs more economically viable. Spized specialises in sublimation printing to offer you a cost-effective and high-quality alternative for your self-designed jerseys.
