Everything You Need to Know About the NFL Game in Germany

Touchdown Berlin! On 9 November 2025, the NFL hype enters the next round as the Indianapolis Colts take on the Atlanta Falcons at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. It will be the fifth NFL game to be played on German soil. Kick-off is at 8:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on RTL, Super RTL and RTL+.

After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by global superstar Tom Brady, defeated the Seattle Seahawks in November 2022, a real hype surrounding NFL games in Germany began. Since then, at least one NFL game has taken place on German soil each year. These games are part of the so-called International Series, through which the league promotes itself worldwide. In 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs faced the Miami Dolphins at Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park before the New England Patriots hosted the Indianapolis Colts in the same stadium a week later. A year later, thousands of NFL fans returned to Munich, where the Carolina Panthers met the New York Giants.

Millions of Ticket Requests

The demand for NFL games in Germany is enormous: over 3 million ticket requests were submitted for the games in Frankfurt alone. However, only around 50,000 fans were able to experience the action live in the sold-out stadium each time. A clear sign of how much interest in American football has grown in Germany. So, anyone wanting to experience an NFL game live needs to plan ahead, secure their tickets early, and have a bit of luck – seats sell out fast.

The Most Important Terms for Beginners

If you want to experience the hype — whether you’re watching the game live in the stadium or from the comfort of your sofa — but aren’t yet too familiar with football, here are the key terms with short explanations for you:

Touchdown: 6 points, awarded when the ball is carried into the opponent’s end zone.
Field Goal: 3 points. A kick through the uprights. After a successful touchdown, it can be used to score an extra point.
Down System: Each team has four attempts (“downs”) to gain 10 yards. If successful, they earn a new set of downs.
Quarterback (QB): The playmaker who decides when to pass or run the ball.
Wide Receiver (WR) & Running Back (RB): Players who catch or carry the ball.
Quarter: A game consists of four quarters of 15 minutes each, with a longer halftime break. Unlike in football (soccer), the clock only runs when the ball is in play.
